The Suesca Lake is a natural water body situated in the municipalities of Suesca and Cucunubá in the department of Cundinamarca, Colombia. The basin has a semi elliptical shape that extendson a north – south axis, with roughly 10 km length and 6 km. width. Its located in the Eastern Mountain Range, on the anticline of Nemocón, to the northeast of the department, in the 5º 6´N and the 78º 48´W at 2800 meters.〔CAR. 1993.〕
== Geology and soils ==
Geologically, the lake is of tectonic origin and is linked to the formation of the Cordillera Oriental, which had a strong uprising activity during the Pliocene. Because of its location there is a wide distribution of sedimentary rocks, and the Guadalupe, Guaduas, Bogota and Areniscas del Cacho formations are present in the area. The basin is crossed by its axis by the failure of Suesca, which is filled by sandstone.〔〔Bastidas, J. 2001. Suesca. Colombia.〕
The soils of the basin are classified as Alfisols, where erosion areas are classified as "bad soils". Generally these correspond to cold and dry climates, with corrugated relief and highly evolved soils, where the presence of erosion is common, and most horizons have enrichment with clay. These soils were formed during the Pliocene and Quaternary, where deposits of volcanic ash from the Cordillera Central, which later became clays currently present on the lower horizons.〔
